Q: What will be the cost?
A: The price is 90 euros per player plus a 200 euro team fee. This price includes a breakfast/lunch package each of the 5 days, 1 dinner, and 2 parties with live bands. Also included is a player package with a disc and a t-shirt. There are cheap camping options (Portuguese weather is great for that) and we arranged discounts on hotel prices (see Hotels and Campsites).

The price for non-players is 55 euros and only differs in that they do not receive the player package

Q: Which countries will participate?
A: As of 16 July May we have the following teams confirmed:

Coed: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, UK, US, and India-Pakistan.
Men: Belgium, Colombia, the UK, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the US, and Currier Island.
Women: The UK, France, Germany, the US, and Finland.
Master: The UK, France, the US, Germany, and Austria.

Q: Where is Currier Island?
A: Currier Island is a country in the making. Brainchild of Ivan Cestero, each BULA World Championship will now see one pickup team that represents 'Currier Island'. The idea is that each year the team that represents Currier Island will add to the country's history/tradition. This year the traditional grass skirts and the flag of Currier Island will be shown to the world. Next World Championships... who knows? The national anthem? The map of the Island? It doesn't matter, a new tradition is born. Needless to say, Currier Island can never make it to the semi-finals, but they will bring excitement and fun to the Championship :-)

Q: How many games will we play?
A: Each team will play 3-4 games (5-on-5 Beach Ultimate) per day Wednesday through Saturday. Only the finalists play on Sunday. For the Women and Master pool we'll have a special program that includes the regular World Championships opportunity and a coed-hat tournament joining the Master and Women players. As of 18 July the playing schedule is ready.

Q: What is the Master team criteria?
A: Each Master team should consist of at least 50% of the players older than 33 (so 34+). The rest of the players can be between 30-34. No players below 30 are eligible.

Q: I want to play, what do I do?
A: First, contact your national federation and tell them you want to play. We also recommend that you also fill out fill out this form and will put you in contact with other players from your country that want to play too.

Q: What is the Magic Bus ride? Who do I contact?
A:The Magic Bus ride will take players/teams from the WFDF World Championships in Finland to Portugal over a period of 2 weeks. Join the crazy international bunch of Ultimate players that will go from Turku, through Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, to Munich where the first mini tournament will be held, then a hat tournament in Vienna, a tournament and some hiking in Grenoble, and then a beach tournament in Barcelona before going the Figueira de Foz. If you want to go, contact Sam Rey at [email protected] by the end of May. It will be your last chance!

Q: What is the timeline?
A: March 30 – Team fees are due
May 24 - Player fees are due
July 24 – Seedings and schedules published
August 24 – Opening party and registration at 7 PM
August 29 (2004) – Closing ceremony in Figueira da Foz at 4 PM

Q: What happens if we cancel?
A: We follow the same rules at the WFDF World Championships: there are no refunds on team fees. For the player fees it is:
> 8 weeks: 80% refund
4-8 weeks: 50% refund
< 4 weeks: no refund unless a doctor letter is sent

Q: What are the uniform rules?
A: All players in a team shall wear shirts and shorts that match in color and design in each game. Teams shall have available a light colored and separate dark colored set of team shirts. The shirts shall be numbered with Arabic integral numerals in the range 0-99, with unique numbers for each player of the team. The numbers should be sewn or printed on the backs of shirts and should be a minimum of 20 centimeters high and 5 centimeters wide. They should be located so that they are completely visible and have a sufficient difference in color to the shirt material to allow easy reading. Individual players must use the same shirt numbers throughout the tournament. No numbers are required on the shorts.

Q: What is the difference between this Championship and Paganello?
A: Paganello is the oldest Beach Ultimate tournament in the world. The World Championships Beach Ultimate is something different. It is organized by EPI (private entity)with the support of BULA (a worldwide Beach Ultimate organization recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation). It actually has its roots at Paganello where it was originally started by Jumpi and others but has since then grown substantially. Currently over 60% of the Beach Ultimate tournaments worldwide adhere to the BULA rules and standards. The popularity of Beach Ultimate continues to grow and the US and Brazil have already shown interest in hosting future World Championships.

Q: Who/what is BULA?
A: BULA is the Beach Ultimate Lovers Association, a worldwide organization recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation. >The BULA board consists of 13 individuals from 9 countries, all sharing the same passion for the sport.
