  • Go Scotland! I bet they have the player who has travelled furthest to get to the championships – just ask them!

  • Sunday 9 December
Slowly but surely the teams are arriving. The Scottish, the Brits, the Philippinos, the Aussies, the Americans have all been spotted. The Irish seem to be determined to have a good showing. They are practicing a lot, having professional post-game strech exercises and we haven´t seen them drunk yet. However this might change in the next few days 🙂
The Swiss won their practice game against the Brazilians tonight on the main arena. The floodlights work great and night games are definitely going to happen thisbweek. I heard that last night the Brazilians played against the Philippines on the same pitch at night but I don´t know what the result was.
The weather is okay. The temperature is very acceptable, but there is more wind than we expected. Today the wind was calmer than the days before and according to the locals it is supposed to die down even more. We hope so. We had tickled the Frisbee Gods in 2004 in Portugal and a day before the tournament started they turned down the wind. We are making the same ceremonial sacrifices and hope they will listen again.
The Beach Ultimate arenas are great. It make the sport look (and feel) more professional. Especially on a World Championships level this is important. It also will show the rest of the country the potential of Beach Ultimate. National TV will be out in force and so will a regional TV station.
Maceio is great too. Lots of life. Lots of people on the beach selling food, drinks, MP3´s, CD´s, sunglasses, coconut water straight from the coconut and lots of other yummie fruits and fruit juices.
I am really looking forward to the next 6 days. Lots of great games. Lots of great parties. Lots a great people.
I will keep you all informed as much as I can and perhaps other players can add their comments to this blog as well.
    Keep ´em flying!
    Patrick

  • YEAH!!!! DRINK SOME CAIPIRINHAS FOR ME!!!!! I’m going to send my self has an attachment in an email to you!!! 😉
Um grande abraço e muitos beijinhos para todos vocês!!!!

  • From the land of Wayne Gretzky and the Stanley Cup. From the Arctic, the Pacific and the Atlantic, GO FOR IT!!
    Dad

  • We are an hour away from registration and all teams are here now. Our sacrifices to the Frisbee Gods have worked and the wind is now perfect. Enough wind to have some cooling effect yet not too much that it negatively influences the game.
The Swiss Mixed team looked hot last night against the UK and US and from a personal perspective the Canadian Masters teams looks dangerous too (reminder: I play for the Portuguese Master´s team 🙂
The Portuguese Masters had a practice game against the Philipino Open team. The team that travelled 3 days (!) had a clear speed advantage but the Portuguese players dealt with them well. In the end they still lost but it was only a practice game. We´ll see how it goes when we play for real 🙂
It also looks like most the missing luggage has been found. The airlines lost the uniforms of the the Swiss, the US Master´s team, and the Philipino team. The first two have recovered their shirts but I don´t know if the later has been found yet. I hope so.
Players seem to be in a great mood and all are ready to start. The opening ceremony will be tonight followed by a performance of Paganello super sexxxy start: Mick Mengucci. I will keep you informed.
    Keep ´em flying
    Patrick

  • Well the registration was slightly chaotic, but in the end it all worked out and people got their player package etc… After the Brazilian players warmed up the rest of the nations with some great dancing, the next item on the agenda was the opening ceremony. Biased as I may be (I was the ceremony master) I think it went really well. After a small speech we played all the national anthems and put the flags in a circle with the players behind it. It gave a real feel of friendship amongst all nations. The World Championships started off on the right foot.
After the opening ceremony was over Paganello Super SeXXXy Star Mick “Michele” Mengucci took to the stage and really got the people going. Singing several Beach Ultimate inspired songs as well as a mix of Italian, Portuguese, Cuban songs he entertained the crowd well. As a special guest he had Tomas van der Valk sing three songs. For those of you that recognize his last name… yes, he is related 🙂 He is our 7-year old son who just loves music and writes his own material. The crowd (as well as his dad) was amazed. The boy´s got talent!
The party lasted until around 1 AM and at 6 AM we awoke to a major rainstorm. Clearly not expected. So far the rest of the day has been been cloudy with the occasional rainstorm. Rumor has it that it was the British that smuggled it into the country 😉 However, it has not been bad. It made for faster games and less people are dying from the heat. Let´s see how long it lasts.
The first three round of play are now finished. I don´t have the scores yet but as soon as I do I will put them online. Probably later tonight.
That is it for now. Keep ´em flying
    Patrick

  • Thanks Patrick for all those info!
Go Espana! go switzerland! Go peace team! keep them flying.. in the end zone 😉

  • Rob….and Fiona….have ye baten the yanks today….hope ye gave them a good game and that you whup a** as the week goes on….semi’s here we come!!!

  • Could anyone tell me, please, where could I see the results? I’m impatient!!!! Thanks.
    ¡¡Esss-paaa-ña!! ¡¡Esss-paaa-ña!! ¡¡Esss-paaa-ña!! ¡¡Esss-paaa-ña!!
    V.

  • I know you are all eager to see the results but there is no Intenet connection on the beach so we have to rush to the hotels to get it to you. The games ended 2 hours ago. Now the results are available online. Not bad… 🙂 And since the main score board got wet today all of you at home are seeing the complete results before the players do.
Now it is time to PARTY so you will have to wait for more stories.
    Keep ´em flying!

  • Go Philippines!!! By now, everyone is wondering who these filipinos are and where they came from. This is your moment of glory so don’t leave any doubt in the other teams’ minds as to who the best team out there is!

  • to all you lucky people in Brazil!
    always remember:
Beach Ultimate makes sports evolution complete!
Therefore: enjoy the perfect time. the swiss spirit world champions since 2004.

  • The Scots are obviously missing the mud and the frozen ground and the icy wind with bits of sleet in it.. enjoy yourselves! 🙂

  • GO TOMAS!!!! YOU RULE!!! 😀
PORTUGAL! PORTUGAL! We are watching, and always with you!!!! 😉 GOOD LUCK!
    ABRAÇOS E BEIJOCAS PARA TODOS!!!!

  • Come on Scotland……the Jamaican bobsleigh team did it in the winter olympics…..you can too. We luv ya!!!!

  • Day two is over and the dice are starting to show face. In the Mixed division Germany and the US look like the teams to beat with Spain and Ireland following closely. Nevertheless, I am not sure if they have the power to beat either one of the first two teams. I would put my money on a US-Germany final in the Mixed division.
The open division is very interesting. Australia, Great Britain, and the Philippines all have a good chance at the finals. The Ausies have great handeling and only lost on sudden death to GB today. GB has the height advantage, whereas the Philippines are like ninja´s. Fast and furious. Tomorrow will have the GB-Philippines and on Saturday Australia-Philippines. Let´s see what happens…
In the Master´s division US and Canada are doing really well but are beatable. Brazil, GB, and Portugal have lost most games but the games between those 3 will determine the 3rd position in the group and then it is anybody´s game.
In the Womens´s division GB looks unstoppable. However the US still has a good bid and it will probably be decided in the finals.
All in all, we see loads of smiles and happy people. Thing are going smoothly. National TV was on location today. That is a great thing for Beach Ultimate. We will reach around 100 million people on Sunday when we will have a section in the most watched sports show in Brazil 🙂
Parties are good, although last night I had the feeling that some teams were saving themselves. However, now that some more games are played and some teams have only hopes in hell to get to the finals we should see more peopel partying. Also the weather has returned to being normal for this time of year: hot! 🙂
So all in all, players are happy, games are hot, and caipirinha´s are cold. Wooohooo!!
Tomorrow more updates. Until then… keep ´em flying!
    Patrick

  • GO PHILIPPINES! keep em flyin guys, you have the support of the whole community back home…and the support of your country. SPREAD THE LOVE

  • Hoy hoy Ireland!!

Hmmm, pensando bem, já tou a ver de onde vêm esses “erros” que o Patrick fala! 😉

  • GO ESPAÑA, GOOOOO!!
    EVERYBODY IN SPAIN IS CHEERING!!
    SHOW THEM YOUR BEST GAME!!
Desde el frío y seco invierno madrileño, envidiamos vuestro juego, el buen tiempo y las Caipirihasssss!!!

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! PILIPINAS!!!!! GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! kayang kaya nyo yan!!!!!!!GOD BLESS & GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would like to congratulate Philippines so far. Nobody sponsered the Philippines team. Most of the team could not go to Brazil because they were too poor to travel around the world so they were left behind. I think they should get some sort of sponsorship next time. Filipino income is not that great. In fact, it’s terrible. I find it amazing that those players that did make it were dedicated enough to pay the expenses for traveling around the world. I’m happy to see them doing well.

  • The results should be up later tonight. Someone is using the business center in the hotel and that is the only way we can update the HTML file. However I can already tell you that the Philippines beat GB in a great game: 13-10! The other big game today was in the Mixed division where the US beat Germany 11-7. In the women´s division the US women beat the GB women 8-5. However since GB beat the US by 4 points in the earlier game, GB is going straight to the finals and the US will have to play Australia for a spot in the finals. In the Master´s division team Canada will play the US tomorrow and GB, Portugal and Brazil are still fighting for the 3rd position. GB beat Brazil and Portugal still has to play both on Saturday. All 3 beat Currier Island.
This is it for now. The BULA congress is starting soon and hopefully we can put up the scores in the next few hours.
    Keep ´em flying
    Patrick

  • Would be great if you could record the television show – or find a link to it. So the rest of beach ultimate world can enjoy it too!
    Thanks for the news.

  • Woohoo!!! Keep up the very good job BORACAY DRAGONS! Much love and pride for you guys. GO DRAGONS!!! Mabuhay ang mga NoyPi!

gO BEACH KINGS!!! M.Y.I.P (Make Your Island Proud) 🙂 MWWWAAAAHHH…..

  • to who ever wrote about the other filipino players being “TOO POOR” to travel around the world, you used the wrong term…they are not TOO POOR…if they were, then they would probably be at the beach dressed in rags and begging for money rather than playing ultimate all around asia…
KINDLY REVIEW YOUR COMMENT BEFORE YOU POST IT…:-)

  • Dear ‘boracay’,
That was me who wrote that. If they weren’t too poor, they would ‘not’ have stayed behind in the Philippines. The only reason they didn’t come to Brazil with the rest of their teammates was because of financial problems. Less than half of the Philippines team made it to Brazil, and they’re still winning. The rest were too poor to come so they stayed behind in the Philippines. Left like soggy meat in a rusty dumpster. As for the ones that did make it to Brazil, I heard they almost didn’t come at all because of financial problems. They barely made it. Nobody sponsored them. If you think they’re doing well now, just imagine their whole team playing in Brazil. Please post your real name instead of ‘boracay’. We’re all friendly here. Let me know if I’m incorrect about any of this. Did they have a sponsor? Did more than half of their team not stay behind? Did the ones who came not decide to come at the last minute becuase of finances? Congratualtions Philippines, Great Britain Open, and Australia. The top three. Im excited to know the outcome of the PH-AU match.
    -Brad Pitt

  • !!MABUHAY PHILIPPINES!!
    Congratulations BORACAY DRAGONS.
    Keep up the GREAT game.
    Best of lUCK..
    chEeRs,
    -sofie-

  • Mr. “Brad Pitt”, i commented on your post because you didnt get your facts right…the rest of the Philippine team did not make it NOT because they were “TOO POOR”…thats like saying they have no money at all…they were left behind due to insufficient funds for the whole team, so only half were able to go and compete in brazil…theres nothing else to discuss…Thank you for your support…
isnt it funny that you ask me to post my real name when you cant even post yours? 🙂

  • Dragons!!! Go mga Bords!!! kay ara nyo hampang ha…d gid kamo kabalik ya sa Boracay mga pakshet kamo…hehe…
hay sos…tapusin na yan…!!! uli eon dayon ya ma tagay ta!!!
    Ano ngani kita Bords???!!!
    BORACAY DRAGONS!!!
    I LAB U GUYS!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMMWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

  • BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE BORACAY DRAGONS..PLAYERS OF THE PHILIPPINES… HELLO PAPA PANOY, CLYDE, BOBOY, JUDE, JAMES, TOTO JAMIN, and CHRISTIAN….AND MAMA KAREN…GOD BLESS YOU GUYS…IWAS INJURY HA…
    SHOW EM HOW ITS DONE…
    GO PHILIPPINES!
    GO BORACAY!

  • Well guys whats the STORY…..did you do the impossible today???/ Cant wait for the results on the score board.
Either way – win or lose today…to be tied for 4th with a day to go is a GREAT performance. We are proud of you all. CUM ONNNN OIRELAND!!!!!

  • The scores should be up soon. In the Open division there is a 3-way tie between Australia (who beat the Philippines by 1 point today), the Philippines, and GB. Since GB lost by 3 points to the Philippines, they got 3rd spot, Australia 2nd and Philippines 1st in the round robin. Next games will be US-PH and GB-AU.
In the Mixed division Spain beat the US to force a 3-way tie too. This was still won by the US on goal difference and with Germany in 2nd. Since Spain entered as a Tyro team they were officially 3rd but had to settle for 4th place. Now Germany and Austria will battle for a place in the finals (US automatically qualifies).
In the Women´s division GB is through to the finals and US and AU are still duking it out later this afternoon.
In the Masters division GB took the hard fought 3rd place and will battle Canada for the other spot in the finals.
The Spirit in Maceio is amazing. Using the BULA scoring sheets we see that there are only 3 or 4 games that had some issues. All the other scores are 8´s, 9´s and lots of 10´s. Amazing!!
So all in all, great games and great spirit.
    I will be in touch
    Patrick

  • Mabuhay ang mga “Phillipino”!
Nike Philippines should get them as sponsors and their tagline should be:
“iniibig ko ang Pilipinas…tahanan ng aking lahi”
    WOOT WOOT! GO DRAGONS!!!!

  • Great to get these updates, thanks.
Gaun yursell Scotland! Keeping up the fine tradition of having a rerr time at tournaments and fostering international relations.
…and go the GB women’s team!
    Graham’s mum

  • St. John, US Virgin Islands, is solidly behind the U.S. Masters team in the finals on Sunday. I will go to breakfast as usual at Donkey Diner, then return to try to find the score, then go to Mary’s to watch the Patriots game. U – S – A , U – S – A .

  • Fantastic effort, guys. We are proud of you. I see the opposition has been tough-a really close comp. Have a great final whatever the outcome and Party Hard after.
    Mum and Dad

  • Oh… Spain. You are a great team! It’s a pity you are not playing semifinals because you entered as a Tyro team, but I’m sure this tournament is going to be a unforgettable experience for all you!! but next time you’ll have to play all the games, ok? 😛 . Get ready for that!!
Good luck for all the teams!!
    GO ESPAÑA!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
    v.

  • Cheers to the Boracay Dragons from the Philippines and their captain Jude Lee! Knew from the start you could take ’em by storm!

  • Galingan nyo! Show the world this game belongs to THE BORACAY DRAGONS- team PHILIPPINES. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!
    WIN IT and come home!

  • Hurray for the Philippine team!!! They have come so far with their talent and commitment to excellence. Their unflinching spirit will carry them forward. Let’s go for the Gold!!!
    Tumba silang lahat sa inyo!!

  • Congratulations to the Filipinos for great competition. It appears Philippines, Great Britain Open, and Australia are tied for the lead. How exciting.
“sofestique” aka “theres nothing else to discuss”,
Thank you for proving my point that only less than half the team barely made it because they were too poor. If they were not too poor, they would have all made it with no problem. Instead more than half the team is left to rot in the Philippines because they could not afford to go to Brazil because they had “insufficient funds” in their bank accounts. Use any euphamism you like. Perhaps we could say they were a little financially challenged. Thanks for clearing that up, “theres nothing else to discuss,” LMAO! You’re right. They were not too poor. They were too financially challenged.

  • Financial challenges, height challenges, this challenge, that challenge, THANKS to all the challenges – WHO’S NUMBER 1 NOW??????
    Philippines baby!!!!!!!!!!!
    DRAGONS OWN Beach Ultimate. HA!
    BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes!! I agree!! They aren’t poor. They’re financially challenged. They aren’t short. They’re elevationally challenged. Hope they do well for the finals. Go Boracay! Stay focused and practice. WOOT!

  • BRAD PITT… please check the name who posted the comment before naming names. It’s BORACAY who posted it, not SOFESTIQUE.

Andrew, Taryn, Daniel, Erin and Brielle.

  • Tim, Rhys and all the men and women of the aussie teams – fantastic effort and congrats on a gold and bronze. Despite the distance, many of us were keeping a close eye on your results in Maceio (even though some of us couldn’t work out exactly when you were starting each day, finishing or when the finals were).
The Longest Day Beach tournament was held on Sunday back here in Aus, and perhaps fittingly the final was abandoned due to monsoonal rains and crazy lightning, therefore not distracting from the main event over there.
Thanks to Al and Brett for the correspondence. Very gripping tales.
Once again, congrats to all who respresented. Hope you enjoy the wins. Looking forward to hear about it all on your return.

  • Spain did not play in the finals because they entered as a Tyro team. That means they have more foreigners on their team than is allowed (you are allowed 2 foreign players on a team that have lived 2 or more years in that country). A Tyro team can not go into the semi finals.
As a last note I would like to thank the organizers, the players and they supporters (many of whom came to this blog) for a great championships. I wish you all safe travels and we´ll see each other in at the next World Championships in 2011!!!
Keep ´em flying and maintain the spirit.
